Frequently Asked Questions
Would you be able to provide me with some information on available CPTED training?
CPTED Canada does not offer nor recommend specific training or trainers for liability reasons and in keeping with our Code of Ethics. In an effort to better understand the claims made by the various service providers, we direct your attention to our Education section in which we address the “Certification Question” https://cptedcanada.com/the-certification-question/.
Is there a list of Canadian Certified CPTED consultants I could refer to?
CPTED Canada does not maintain a list of “Certified” Canadian CPTED consultants nor recommend specific CPTED consultants for liability reasons and in keeping with our Code of Ethics. CPTED Canada recommends that your search for a “certified” consultant start with an on-line search. I am reaching out as I am interested in obtaining my CPTED certification.
The term certification tends to be somewhat loosely used by many CPTED service providers. It is therefore important that you educate yourself about what constitutes certification which can be found in the “Certification Question” section of our web-site at https://cptedcanada.com/the-certification-question/. Once you achieve an understanding of what constitutes certification, CPTED Canada recommends that you test any claim of certification against this explanation.
Can you assist me in finding someone that can do a CPTED review?
CPTED Canada does not make specific recommendations with respect to individuals or companies that conduct CPTED reviews for liability reasons and in keeping with our Code of Ethics. For basic CPTED audits, CPTED Canada does recommend that you begin your search by first checking with your local Police Service’s Crime Prevention, CPTED, or Community Safety unit of your and/or your local crime prevention association which are done as a public service.
For more challenging and/or involved CPTED/security audits, CPTED Canada recommends that you broaden your search to include professional services such as Security and/or Design services that promote CPTED principles through an open-source, on-line search. These for-fee service providers may or may not make claims with respect to “certification.” CPTED Canada recommends that your due diligence includes an investigation into experience, previous clients and the basis for claiming certification. CPTED Canada recommends that you read the “Certification Question” section on our web-site at https://cptedcanada.com/the-certification-question/.
